Student Chapter Updates

AAAR at the University of Miami by Shruti Choudhary

The University of Miami student chapter organized a series of impactful events. The 2nd Annual Center for Aerosol Science and Technology Workshop featured a student poster session and a 3-minute research competition, offering students a platform to present their research concisely and creatively. The Syntho-Matrix event provided engineering students with hands-on experience in material synthesis using aerosol reactors, blending scientific learning with artistic expression. Additionally, the chapter launched the “Talk to an Aerosol Scientist” podcast series (Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5TC440IdLKfqkYFNPTtRZS; Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/talk-to-an-aerosol-scientist/id1735612684), which features conversations with prominent aerosol scientists and has quickly become a valuable resource for students and professionals alike. The chapter also organized monthly journal clubs and a “Meet the Industry Professional” session with Dr. Adewale Adeosun from Intel. The chapter is planning exciting future events and expresses gratitude to Dr. Pratim Biswas and AAAR for their support.

AAAR at the University of California, Riverside by James Davies

The UC Riverside student chapter held engaging meet and greet sessions with four visiting aerosol scientists this year who presented on new particle formation (Coty Jen), aerosol chemistry (Ran Zhou), and reactive oxygen species (Manabu Shiraiwa, Markus Kalberer). We also hosted a virtual AS&T seminar by Benjamin Nault discussing ionization efficiencies in the Aerodyne AMS. With old students graduating and new students joining, we are holding social gatherings to connect with and engage aerosol-inclined students across campus, starting with a recent movie night. More activities planned!
