Call for 2025 Award Nominations

Each year, the American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) presents several awards to recognize outstanding contributions in the field of aerosol science. All awards will be announced and presented at the 43rd AAAR Annual Conference being held on October 13-17, 2025, in Buffalo, New York.

The Awards Committee invites you to submit nominations for the following prestigious awards. Please visit the pages below for specific requirements for each award:

  • The Juan Fernandez de la Mora Prize awards a Half-Mini DMA to a researcher participating in the study of nanometer particles at high resolution.
  • The AS&T Outstanding Publication Award is awarded annually to one paper published in Aerosol Science and Technology (AS&T) without regard to publication date.
  • The Teaching, Mentoring and Training Award recognizes excellence in supporting students, postdocs, research scientists and early career scientists and in creating an inclusive environment.
  • The Susanne V. Hering Award recognizes outstanding contributions to aerosol science that have an impact on public health, the built environment, or the global ecosystem.
  • The Sheldon K. Friedlander Award recognizes an outstanding dissertation by an individual who has earned a doctoral degree.
  • The Benjamin Y. H. Liu Award recognizes outstanding contributions to aerosol instrumentation and experimental techniques that have significantly advanced the science and technology of aerosols.
  • The Thomas T. Mercer Joint Prize recognizes excellence in the areas of pharmaceutical aerosols and inhalable materials. *Nominations for this award are now closed.
  • The David Sinclair Award recognizes sustained excellence in aerosol research and technology by an established scientist still active in his/her career.
  • The Kenneth T. Whitby Award recognizes outstanding technical contributions to aerosol science and technology by a young scientist.

Nominations and supporting documentation for these awards (other than the Thomas T. Mercer Joint Prize Award) must be received by June 6, 2025, in ONE PDF file in the following order:

  1. One letter of nomination from a current AAAR member
  2. All award-specific nomination requirements
  3. Letter(s) of support
  4. Nominee’s curriculum vitae

Key Dates/Reminders

The 2025 Annual Conference will be held at the Buffalo Convention Center in Buffalo, NY, from October 13-17, 2025.

Key Dates:

  • The abstract submission deadline is May 9, 2025.
  • The late-breaking abstract submission deadline is July 25, 2025.
  • Registration is scheduled to open in late May.
  • The annual awards (other than the Thomas T. Mercer Joint Prize Award) are open for nomination through June 6, 2025.
  • Applications for the Social Media Ambassadors Program are now open through May 31, 2025. The results will be announced in June. Up to four undergraduate students, graduate students, or early-career researchers (≤3 years since terminal degree) will be selected as part of the 2025 Social Media Ambassador (SMA) Program to post about the AAAR conference using AAAR’s LinkedIn page. SMAs will receive free registration for the conference, plus a $500 travel grant if they stay in the conference hotel or a $300 travel grant if they stay elsewhere, as well as free access to up to two conference tutorials on Monday, October 13, 2025, and the subsequent evening event.)
