Message from the President

Dear Colleagues,

Spring has sprung, and things are lively in the world of aerosols.

We are eagerly anticipating our 42nd Annual Meeting, Oct. 21-25 2024 in Albuquerque, New Mexico! Conference Chair Dr. Shanna Ratnesar-Shumate, along with AAAR leadership and staff, is hard at work planning an outstanding meeting. We have a slate of inspiring plenary speakers lined up, including Dr. Shirley Malcom of AAAS. Shirley is Senior Advisor to the AAAS CEO and Director of the SEA (STEMM Equity Achievement) Change initiative. SEA Change aims to advance institutional transformation in support of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in colleges and universities. Besides top quality technical sessions organized by the working groups, technical programming will include an astounding 5 special symposia, on topics ranging from down to earth (Bioaerosols in Agriculture) to out of this world (Planetary Aerosols: From Earth to Exoplanets). Exciting local events are also in the works for the week of the conference, stay tuned for updates. We’d like to extend a special thank you to our exhibitors and sponsors. We are looking forward to another session of our popular Exhibitor and Instrument Application Showcase (AKA “Scientists doing experiments drinking coffee”). For questions about sponsoring or exhibiting, please contact Mika Sonis, at msonis@virtualinc.com.

If you have logged into the “Members Only” section of the AAAR website lately you may have noticed a few changes! We have adopted a new membership database that will better allow us to stay connected and work together as a community. In case you missed it, search your email for a message with the subject “Welcome to the AAAR Member Community!”

What makes AAAR truly special is its member community. If you would like to give back to AAAR by becoming involved in a committee, helping organize the conference, serving in Association leadership, or nominating members for awards, please contact Vice President Amy Sullivan Amy.Sullivan@colostate.edu.

Happy Spring,

President V. Faye McNeill, Columbia University
