Dear Colleagues,
There are only a limited number of hours to go before abstract submissions close today, Friday, May 9, for the AAAR 43rd Annual Conference. I hope you are all finalizing your abstracts and getting ready to click submit. As a reminder, each current AAAR member received one free abstract code via e-mail on March 5. You can submit your abstracts here.
You may submit abstracts for any of our topical areas, as well as for five Special Symposia that will be featured at the 2025 Conference:
- Biomass Questions of Aerosol Emissions, Chemistry, and Impacts from Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) Fires
- Chemicals of Emerging Concern in Indoor and Outdoor Aerosol: Sources, Vectors, Reactivity, and Impacts
- Aerosol Processes and Properties in Changing Environments in the Anthropocene
- Reducing Aerosol Exposure with Control Technologies and Interventions
- Advancing Aerosol Science Through Data Analysis Tools
The Meet the Job Seekers Poster Session will be held in the Exhibit Hall during the Welcome Reception on Tuesday evening. Job Seekers can present their background and expertise to potential employers across academia, government, and industry. Potential Employers can meet the Job Seekers. To submit an abstract for this Poster Session, please follow the directions provided on our website linked above. No abstract code is needed for this session.
Exhibitors, don’t forget that you’re also welcome to submit an abstract to be part of the Exhibitor and Instrument Application Showcase (click for more information on how to submit an abstract). Attendees, please note that these sessions will be held in the Exhibit Hall and are designed to foster engagement with Exhibitors, offering hands-on learning opportunities and discussions centered on real measurement applications and challenges. We hope you will plan to check them out!

AAAR 42nd Annual Conference in Albuquerque
Student, Early Career, and Professional Opportunities
We are coordinating two Student Presentation Competitions this year: the Student Poster Competition and the Student Oral Platform Competition! Students can sign up to participate in the competitions during abstract submission. Judges can sign up to volunteer during registration.
For the fourth year in a row, we’re excited to bring back the Social Media Ambassadors Program, designed for students and early-career researchers. This initiative supports a more dynamic and consistent social media presence for AAAR by having ambassadors spotlight and promote key aspects of the conference—before, during, and after the event. Each ambassador will receive free conference registration and a travel grant as part of their participation. This year, we’re launching the program earlier than ever, with applications officially opening on May 1, thanks to the Internet Committee’s efforts! Stay tuned for more information to come.
We are planning for Student Assistants to help out during the tutorials and technical Sessions at this year’s conference. Each Student Assistant will receive admission to two tutorials for free.
We have also been working hard to secure sponsorship to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to join us in Buffalo. We will be offering an increased number of travel grants this year to students (domestic and international), early career researchers, international professionals, and federal colleagues. The Call for Student Assistants and Travel Grant Applications will open in June, following the abstract submission deadline.
Conference Venue and Details
As you may know, Amy Sullivan, Emily Charles, Taylor Brown, and I had a chance to visit Buffalo in March. We were all very impressed with both the location and the convention center. We all, at some point during our visit, wondered how AAAR had not been to Buffalo before. The Conference Center is just 15 minutes from the airport, located right downtown. The conference hotel, the newly renovated Hyatt Regency Buffalo Hotel, is connected to the Conference Center (not to mention surrounded by a number of fantastic restaurants).

Hyatt Regency Buffalo Hotel and Conference Center
One exciting event already in the works is our annual Fun Run on Wednesday morning, taking you on a route to Canalside along Buffalo’s waterfront and next to the Buffalo Sabres’ home stadium. Please visit the events section of the conference website for updates, especially since we are looking to provide options to visit Niagara Falls on Friday and possibly a Wednesday evening event.
The Exhibit Hall is a particularly impressive space in the Conference Center. Over the past several months, companies offering instrumentation and services in aerosol science and technology have started to sign up for booths in the Exhibit Hall, which you can check out here. It will be open Tuesday through Thursday of the conference, allowing us to engage with and learn from these companies. In addition, 12 of them will be participating in our popular Hands-On Aerosol Instrumentation Design and Measurement Tutorial. You will be able to sign up for this Tutorial and 16 others (including a brand new one to build DIY air filters!) when conference registration opens at the end of May, following the abstract submission deadline.
We are continuing to populate the entire conference website. Please keep checking back often.
Lastly, if you have any questions about abstract submission, reach out to support@AAARabstracts.com, or for AAAR Membership details, reach out to info@aaar.org. As always, if you have any questions about the conference or suggestions on how we can improve the experience, please feel free to reach out to me at surratt@unc.edu.
We are looking into opportunities to be able to take advantage of this great new location.
