CDT in Aerosol Science Training Resources

Do you need training in the fundamentals of aerosol science?

AAAR provides access to the EPSRC CDT in Aerosol Science training resources for graduate students studying aerosol science in member institutions in North America. The resources provide training in the underlying physical science governing the properties and transformations of aerosols. These materials comprise over 50 hours of mini lectures, extensive multiple-choice problem sets to test learning, and detailed reading lists.

The Core Aerosol Science topics include:

  • Size distributions, shape, and concentrations
  • Deposition, filtration, and sampling
  • Aerosol measurement: Size, concentration, shape, mass
  • Electrical properties
  • Aerosol phase and thermodynamics
  • Optical properties of aerosol
  • Introduction to biological aerosol
  • Nucleation and new particle formation
  • Aerosol evaporation and condensation
  • Aerosol particle sources and aerosol routes to materials synthesis
  • Inhaled aerosols and health
  • Chemical reactions, and analysis of composition, phase, volatility
  • Drug delivery to the lungs
  • Aerosol transport and dynamics

To request access to these CDT training materials through AAAR, please access the online webform on this webpage. Only 15 spaces left, so don’t miss out!

Are you also interested in other opportunities for training such as one-day online short courses on specific aerosol topics or a week-long in-person training course (e.g. summer school)? The EPSRC CDT in Aerosol Science are exploring the possibility of providing training targeted to PhD students, Post Docs and Early Career Academics, in one of these two formats during 2026 and would appreciate your thoughts on what would be most appropriate for meeting your training needs.

Please take the EPSRC CDT in Aerosol Science survey for training courses in aerosol science! We will get in touch with you with more opportunities for training soon!
