Dear Colleagues,
I hope your summer has been going well. As I reflect on the year so far, it never ceases to amaze me the supportiveness and resilience of AAAR Members and the larger aerosol Community. From Secretary Rachel O’Brien spearheading sharing messages from the Executive Committee to our Friends and Colleagues from GAeF (Gesellschaft Für Aerosolforschung Association for Aerosol Research) reaching out with their own letter of support. Another great example is our Vice President, Suresh Dhaniyala, using his President’s Funds to help provide travel support to current and recent Federal Employees so they can join us in October. The Internet Committee is tirelessly charging ahead on an idea they initially discussed during their Committee Meeting in Albuquerque to launch a new Job Board on the AAAR website to help address the current needs of our Community (for more details, see the Career Opportunities section in this issue!). I have always said that one of the best things about AAAR is the wonderful family that it is, and I hope you all agree that I don’t know of a time when this could not be more true!
Looking ahead, I am happy to share that AAAR will be going to Ohio in 2027. We just signed a contract to hold our Conference in two years at the Huntington Convention Center in downtown Cleveland. Emily Charles from AAAR’s Events Team had a great visit there in April and we are all looking forward to trying out this new venue for us. We are also currently working on selecting venues for our 2028 and 2029 Conferences.
Speaking of our Conference, planning for this year’s Conference to be held from October 13-17th in Buffalo, NY, is going very well. I continue to meet weekly with Virtual and part of the Conference Committee. We received over 600 abstracts in May! You can check out the preliminary program here: Conference Program. The Exhibit Hall is coming together nicely with over 20 Exhibitors already in place. Don’t forget to sign up to participate in one of the Hands-On Instrumentation Tutorials or plan to attend the Exhibitor Showcase during the Conference, which these Exhibitors will be leading. We are looking forward to taking advantage of some of the local treasures in Buffalo with our Wednesday morning Fun Run to the Erie Basin Marina Observation Deck along Canalside and the Friday afternoon field trip to Niagara Falls where you will get to enjoy the Maid of the Mist boat ride and many other adventures. We also hope you will join us for some fun and games on Wednesday night at AAAR’s Bingo and Food Bash. This event is free and open to all Attendees! We recently selected 5 Social Media Ambassadors, who you can follow on our LinkedIn page. Of course, many of our Committees are working behind the scenes to help us with all the planning. This includes organization of the Student Poster and Oral Platform Competition by the Education Committee, events by the Early Career Committee and Committee for Representation & Equity Affairs (Conference Events – 2025 AAAR Annual Conference), a booth by the Membership Committee, just to name a few. In one last piece of wonderful news, we have been able to offer more Travel Grants than ever before thanks to a successful NSF Conference proposal led by Suresh!
In case you are looking for additional ways to stay connected before the Conference, don’t forget that you can join us for our monthly AS&T Lecture Series. Each month a high-impact paper from our Journal, Aerosol Science & Technology, is selected by the Editors to be presented by its authors. In addition, each Lecture is hosted by one of AAAR’s Student Chapters. In June, we held our 36th Lecture! In case you missed it or just want to rewatch one of these amazing talks, you can access them all on AAAR’s YouTube.
As always, if you have any questions or there is anything I can do to help, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at amy.sullivan@colostate.edu. I look forward to seeing and catching up with all of you in Buffalo!
Sincerely,
Amy P. Sullivan
2025 AAAR President
